Developed by Microsoft Corporation, MSDN Library - October 2001 is an offline snapshot of Microsoft’s developer documentation as of October 2001. Distributed on disc, it consolidates programming guides, API references, and sample code for Windows and Microsoft tools of the era, including the Win32 API, COM, MFC/ATL, Visual C++ and Visual Basic, early Visual C# and .NET/ASP.NET content, Internet Explorer and web development, XML, and server products such as SQL Server. The library offers full-text search with indexing and cross-references, filtering by technology, and integration with Visual Studio (while also usable as a standalone viewer). It was built to give developers dependable, offline access to official documentation when building applications for Windows 98/Me/NT/2000/XP, including the then-new Windows XP platform. As a quarterly release, this edition captures the state of Microsoft platforms and tools in late 2001, making it both a practical companion for maintaining legacy code and a useful historical reference.
